Missing, Presumed Dead

Missing, Presumed Dead

Well almost, but still hanging around like a bad smell.

Hi.

What can I say except work work work work work... plus that stress seems to truncate your vocabulary some.

See... writing journals is like recreation... and time for recreation I haven't got. However, today I've made just a little me-time. This morning I went into town to pick up a book. I've finished it already - it was that good. If you're into Star Wars and enjoy a good Zombie yarn then Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber is one for you. I finished it in 4 hours. It's only been out a short while and I've been itching to read it since I saw the ad.

What have I been up to?

Working... not taking photos... trying to set up one or two side projects in between - one I'm particularly enthused about and will tell all as and when it's ready.

Still haven't gotten around to sorting the book out. (Sorry Ken). Will do a.s.a.p... heart attack pending.

Anyway, enough about my and uber interesting life, how's you?

Thanks to everyone that's written to me concerned by my absence, you know who you are

PS. Gonna be a dad again in March - did I mention that before? ;)

M.

PPS.

Photography Outside dA

I come across a lot of wonderful photography outside of dA, whether they be archival sites or specific photographers and I've always wanted to share it here as well as in my blog. My intention is to provide links to these sites as and when I find them here. dA has a plethora of many many fantastic photographers, but believe it or not, there are many many out there that don't use dA. Take a look, I've even managed to encourage one or two to join!

Here are a few to whet your appetite and expand your mind :)

:bulletyellow: NEW! Diana H Bloomfield - Pinhole Portraiture
:bulletyellow: NEW! Jean Yves Lemoigne
:bulletblue: Speigel Online - East Germany Up Close and Personal
:bulletblue: Beyond Light - The X-Ray Photography of Albert Koetsier
:bulletblue: Square America - 1930's Mugshots
:bulletblue: Medicine Men - Excerpts from the Alaska Digital Archive
:bulletblue: Cara Barer - Paper Abstractions
:bulletblue: Andrew Bush - 66 Drives
:bulletblue: Gary Salter

I'll be posting more as and when I come across them :)

Hola.

My name is Matt and I hail from deepest darkest Wales. Here it rains almost constantly and the sheep have sharp teeth and ravenous sexual appetites but... if you're carefree and open minded... it can also be a very beautiful place to live. I live with my partner, I have three children aged 14, 6 and 3, a dog, a cat, a rabbit, a tortoise and a fish. By day I'm a designer, by night I'm a designer... but inbetween sometimes I take photos.

"...Dead, long dead,
Long dead!
And my heart is a handful of dust,
And the wheels go over my head,
And my bones are shaken with pain,
For into a shallow grave they are thrust,
Only a yard beneath the street,
And the hoofs of the horses beat, beat,
The hoofs of the horses beat,
Beat into my scalp and my brain,
With never an end to the stream of passing feet,
Driving, hurrying, marrying, burying,
Clamor and rumble, and ringing and clatter,
And here beneath it is all as bad
For I thought the dead had peace, but it is not so;
To have no peace in the grave, is that not sad?
But up and down and to and fro,
Ever about me the dead men go;
And then to hear a dead man chatter
Is enough to drive one mad..."

Alfred Lord Tennyson

Do Not Go Gentle...

Do Not Go Gentle - Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
